Sandy Camp started in the fall of 1999. We are now in our fifth year. This will be our third year at Warner Springs Ranch, October 206. The atmosphere at WSR is that of total relaxing. Their hot pools are very inviting and the sulphur melts all your troubles away. The spa offers facials and body massage if you have a really stressed out life or just want to really pamper yourself. Golf, horseback riding, tennis, basketball, volleyball, soccer, sunbathing, or just plain sitting around are all offered here! And sailplaning is right up the street from the Ranch. You can see their website at:www.warnersprings.com/1.html

The main event at Sandy Camp is playing with clay and relaxation. However, we are very active in doing demos and impromptu 'info sharing' and 'idea swapping'. We also now have formal classes that are an extra charge but well worth it! We have opportunity drawings and silent auctions as well. Many people sell their art to each other- or trade. We have even been know to sell to people at the Ranch. However, soliciting is strictly prohibited.

We have a full service store there so if you forgot anything, no worries. You can even order ahead if you want to have your order there for you. Just bring your pasta machine and you are good to go! We have two to three ovens going all the time.

People bring munchies to share and we have those available all day long. (Bring a cooler if you have perishables or munchies). Each year we have had a feeding "theme". The Ranch has a fabulous, moderately priced dining room attached to the "Clay Room" and a fun cafe across the street from the main resort.

All rooms have small refrigerators in the rooms but there is absolutely no cooking in the rooms. You can have a coffee maker but why bother. There is coffee going all day long in the lodge. Often we bring salad or sandwich makings to make your own lunch if you are on a tight budget. Just no cooking in the room- they are very strict about that and they will fine you $50 if housekeeping finds a crock pot or anything resembling cooking. You can keep the crock-pot outside your door on the patio but not in the room.

You will need to contact the Ranch directly to book your room. They can accommodate three to a room and can help you get into a room with others that want to share. It's a great way to make new friends! Contact Cindy Simpson at groups@warnersprings.com

The cost has been minimal in the past and will be again this year. The rooms run $105 per night but split three ways is affordable. CLASSES AT SANDY CAMP:

Here is the news on classes at Sandy Camp.   We have decided to have shorter classes (3-4 hrs) in the morning and evenings this year, leaving people the middle of the day to play, share, snooze, etc.  Beckah Krahula will be teaching most of the classes.  Her website is: www.bearingbeads.com.   You will find pictures and descriptions there.  The classes all have a final product, but all contain a variety of techniques.  Some of the techniques are the same or similar, even tho the classes are a bit different.  So, do not feel like you have to squeeze them all in!!   Beckah will share lots and lots during each class, making taking even just one worth while.

You can sign up by sending your checks and class(es) desired to Susan Berkowitz, SDPCG, P.O. box 27142, San Diego, ca 92198-7142.   Each of Beckah's classes is $45.  I don't have a fee yet for Marie's class. Materials lists will not be available until closer to October.  Exact times will also be posted later, but you can anticipate that morning classes will be at 9a.m. except for Friday, which will not be until 10.  Evening classes will be at about 5:30.  Each class will be 31/2-4hrs:

Friday morning - scrimshaw bracelet with Beckah
evening - faux stone and other  techniques with a ripple blade with Marie
Saturday morning -  shrine books with Beckah
evening - venetian glass beads in polymer clay with Beckah
Sunday morning - faux tibetan coral and chinese turquoise pendants with Beckah
     evening- fetish doll with Beckah

The usual disclaimer: everything is subject to change, because life happens!  Address questions to Susan at berkowitzs@hotmail.com.  PLEASE do not ask her to reserve you a space in a class without payment!!
