Class Description

List of materials to be provided by the student:

  • Basic polymer clay tool kit which includes; a smooth work surface, a pasta machine or rolling tool, a cutting or tissue blade, and your favorite clay working tools.

  • notebook/sketch pad

  • Pencils (one soft and one hard pencil)

  • tracing paper

  • 3M white paper tape or masking tape

  • #11 X-acto knife and replacement blades

  • cutting surface (back of a pad will work)

  • various sculpting tools (whatever you have including small wood square tip ceramic tool for backfilling)

  • various size needle tools (whatever you have) 

  • various wet/dry sandpaper in 60,100, 150, 220, 400 grit (bring a selection, not all grits)

  • 0000 super fine steel wool

  • baby wipes

  • dust mask (if you’re dry sanding)

  • shoebox size water container (if you’re wet sanding)

  • Armor All (auto protectant spray as mold release agent)

  • various conditioned colored clays (I use Sculpey III, other brands will work but the rigid characteristics of Sculpey III seems to work best)

  • ruler/straight edge

  • small drafting triangle

  • #10 or #12 crochet hook for glue application (these  have very fine tips)

BONUS/OPTIONAL materials as used in March Art Jewelry Magazine cover project:

plastic coated paper clips,

24-gauge “Amaco Funwire” plastic coated copper wire

spool of thread (any color)

small needle-nose pliers w/wire cutter (to cut harder wire)

round nose pliers

pin vise

jewelers bits
