BOTTLES OF HOPE
MEETINGS
|
Guild members loaded up their supplies and took a field trip to the Moores Cancer Center to teach staff, volunteers and patients how to make Bottles of Hope. We made a total of 38 bottles that day in a short 2 hour period. Pretty well for most of them never having used clay before. The patients that did take part said that it was nice to come to the center for something fun for a change. Both the patients and the staff and volunteers that took part in the event really enjoyed the day. Guild members came away exhaustered from the busy morning. We had to teach a bunch of people how to take this substance that they may never have seen and turn it into a beautiful piece of art that will bring hope to a friend in need. We had donations of clay and canes from several members of the guild which helped the participants to create all kinds of wonderful designs. Special thank you's to Marie, Tina, Ellie, Pat and Deni who helped me out with this outreach project. We had about 40 people preregister for the event.
The Guild plans on trying to make this an annual event with the center. We will invite those interested to join us at our next guild "Bottle of Hope Extravaganza" like the one we had in May of 2008. We should be having it soon. The "Bottle of Hope Extravaganza" is held on clay day and we all come together and make bottles. In May we made over 100 bottles. We had lots of fun and for every bottle you completed you received a raffle ticket. at the end of the day tickets were drawn for the winning prizes. Hopefully we can do something like that again. Watch this website for updates!
