SANDY CAMP VI
 Our President's Thoughts
Every year we ask the same question: How did Sandy Camp get better this year? And every year we have the same answer: “It just did!!”
Maybe it’s the weather, maybe it’s the location, maybe it’s the people. This year, it was all of the above. The participants were from ALL over the world: we had our old friend Martina, a SDPCG member, who moved to Germany. We had Carol Blackburn from England (she was originally scheduled to come to SD for EoPC- which got canceled but she came any way and had such fun with our local guild, she decided to come back a second time for Sandy Camp!) We had lots of new faces from all parts of the US, as well.

This year, we did have some new adventures. In the past, Sandy Camp has been a full blown retreat where we just work on projects and share ideas with each other and just relax. Another year, we had impromptu demos that everyone enjoyed. One year, we had scheduled classes that many took advantage of. As a retreat, that had the feeling of separation for some of our members and we didn’t like that. So this year, we all stayed in the same area, so we always felt like we were all together, and had demos galore!!

The demos:

We had: Judy Summer, Jean Sheppard, Bonnie Mraz, Sunni Bergeron, Kim Kennedy, Dotty McMillan, Dawn Schiller, Janet Pitcher and Kelly Steindorf, Christi Freisen, Donna Kato, Lisa Pavelka, syndee holt, Marie Segal, Judith Skinner, Carolyn Potter, and Hava Eisenson!! How’s that for a line-up?? Five days of demos included in your registration fee. Each artist did two back-to-back half hour demos so everyone could see the great works that were offered.

The tent:

Our location was different this year. In the past, when we have been at Warner Springs Ranch, we have been on the Anza Patio. This year, the protective sides they had were no longer there, so we had weather concerns with no protection available to us. But they have a new tent they had purchased for events, weddings, retreats and the like. That’s where we were. And it was great. The portable heaters worked too well for some (too hot) and felt like a welcome blast of heat for those of us just coming in from the chilled night air.

The store:

The Clay Factory has been our store of choice from the beginning. Unfortunately, this year, we weren’t able to have them on site. We did, however, have hand delivery from them as well as extra product available for purchase in our fabulous In-House Store run by Kim Kennedy (aka “BeadyEyedBrat”) and her infamous side-kick Thomas Ojeda! We also had Kato Clay and Pavelka Glue and so much more. The Sandy Camp participants were able to put their pieces of art in the consignment portion of the store to sell to everyone who came in. The Ranch owners took full advantage of this Holiday Buying Frenzy. Many participants were feverishly making items to put into the store each day as their pieces flew off the shelves.
